Opening Night Gala

The Opening Night Gala, a new addition to Flamenco in the Sun, is a showcase featuring all our invited guest artists including, Carmela Greco (Madrid), Nelida Tirado (NY), and Jose Luis Rodríguez (Seville) among others. This program will include first-time-ever collaborations, as well as, solo performances in traditional Flamenco rhythms and will be presented at the Parker Playhouse in Fort Lauderdale.

Alfonsina, La Mujer en el Mar is a Flamenco ballet based on the work of recognized Argentinean poet, Alfonsina Storni, to deal with the most basic human emotions of love and loss.  Storni was an artist characterized by her constant search for freedom and a preoccupation with following her own path without being burdened by the established norms. As such, the story is told through an innovative blend of musical and dance styles using some of her best known poems set to original compositions by José Luís Rodríguez.  The program will feature renowned Cuban singer Gema Corredera and percussionist Fernando Favier with choreography by Pastora Galván, Damaris Ferrer, and Niurca Márquez.

Café Cantante (Flamenco in the Sun 2007)

Back by popular demand! Café Cantante features local Flamenco dancers and musicians performing in a Café Style environment on top of the Parker Playhouse Stage. Audience Members can sit at a table for coffee and dessert as they enjoy the performance up close and personal.
