Richard
Brooken
Mr. Brookens is an arrangement/composer and
multi-instrumentalist performer on saxophones (Soprano,
Alto, Tenor and Baritone), flutes (C and Alto), clarinets
(Bb and Bass), Tabla drums, and bamboo flutes from India
and China. Richard lives in Fort Lauderdale and enjoys
working in many different styles of music such as Jazz,
Rock, Classical, Flamenco, Indian, Japanese, and World
Fusion. He has produced 3 CDs included with Jazziz magazine.
Richard recently composed music for a short film about
the homeless called The Park, and is helping to orchestrate
and rearrange recently composed music for a musical
show about Nefertiti.
His music was also recently featured in a play title
Displaced about refugee women and children produced
at Altered Stages in New York City by Nicu’s spoon.
He is also currently performing with his own World Fusion
group Yellow Bell, guitarist Randy Bemsem (Jazz Fusion),
and Duo DaDa, an improvisatory dance/music performance
art duo with actress/ dancer/performance artist Barbara
Sloan. After graduating from Berklee College of Music,
Richard received a National Endowment for the Arts grant
to study Jazz Improvisation with Charles Banacos. He
has performed with many artist including: The Artie
Shaw Orchestra, Cab Calloway, Mary Street Dance Co,
and has worked in many studios as a player and arranger
on records and commercials.
