Pepe
de Málaga
Born in Costa del Sol, Málaga, Pepe
de Málaga moved to Madrid from a very young age
where he debuted as a flamenco cantaor in the Tablao
Las Brujas. From his time there, he gained his stage
name. He has since been associated with renowned flamenco
figures such as Fosforito, Antonio Molina, Marifé
de Triana, Rafael Farina, Juanita Reina and Caracolillo.
In 1964 and 1973 he won two Primeros Premios del Cante
Flamenco singing in the Saeta form. As the cantaor for
the ballet of Antonio and Rafael de Córdoba,
he toured all over Europe with much success. Thereafter
he joined the company of Estrella Morena as exclusive
cantaor and once again toured all over Spain, Asia,
The Phillipines, Japan and the United States.
Since then he has been presented at an Honorary gala
for the King and Queen of Spain at the Waldorf Astoria
in New York; The Chamber of Commerce of Spain and the
Casa de España of New York and New Jersey; Carnegie
Hall; El Chateau Madrid; The Spanish Institute; Hunter
College Barbizon Plaza Theater. He has completed lengthy
seasons in Miami Florida and in 1984 was featured in
a special presentation honoring Placido Domingo for
his movie Carmen.
Most recently, he sang at the Lincoln Theater in Miami
Beach for Estrella Morena with the New World Symphony
and the renowned flamenco artist Carmen Linares. |
